I think his problem is that he 'loves football' so much that he can't see it for what it is.
While I never played, I do have an inkling about the physicality involved.
He seems to be so deluded that he thinks the sport is perfect.

He combines the best parts of Napoleon Dynamite and Warren from There's Something About Mary.
While I've never met the kid, I did observe him in the Coeburn Subway for a while one evening. He just sat there in a booth staring into space.
His demeanor and obsession with football reminds me of someone I went to school with. Totally obsessed with sports, socially awkward to put it nicely, a little slow at times. But a good person all the same.

I saw him at the game tonight before it started. Him and (I assume) his brother. Just throwing 10 yard passes to one another in the scoreboard endzone. He's an odd dude, especially to be like 19 now.

Only if coach would have put me in in......we would have won state. No doubt in my mind.
I tried not to make eye contact. I was afraid he would have wanted a friend.
